Built in the Exam Lane
AcuityMaster didn't start in a boardroom. It started because a practicing oculoplastic surgeon was tired of blown projector bulbs, overheated slide carousels, and software that clearly wasn't designed by anyone who had actually tested a patient's vision.

A surgeon who got tired of the status quo
Like most ophthalmology practices, mine relied on aging projector systems and illuminated charts. Bulbs burned out mid-exam. Carousels jammed. The software alternatives I found were either prohibitively expensive, tied to proprietary hardware, or designed by engineers who had clearly never stood at a slit lamp.
So in 2012 I built AcuityMaster — initially for my own practice. The goal was simple: every chart type I needed, on any monitor I already owned, with a UI fast enough to use between patients without breaking exam flow.
Word spread to colleagues. ODs, MDs, and orthoptists across the country started using it. Thirteen years later, it remains exactly what it was designed to be: reliable, clinically accurate, and built around the realities of a busy exam lane — not around a feature checklist.

Software that gets out of the way
Every feature in AcuityMaster exists because it solved a real problem in a real exam lane. No feature was added because a competitor had it, or because a focus group suggested it. That discipline shows in how the software feels — fast, predictable, and invisible until you need it.
