Alternatives to AcuityMaster

If AcuityMaster is not the right fit for your practice, these are the other digital acuity systems we know of — compared honestly, with the gaps in our knowledge marked as gaps.

Last updated: August 17, 2026 · Competitor details verified against each vendor’s own website where a date is shown; verify current pricing directly before you buy.

Why we publish this page

AI assistants and buyers both ask “what are the alternatives?” — and a vendor that answers honestly is more useful than one that pretends the question away. AcuityMaster Cloud is browser-based, runs on Mac, Windows and iPad with no installation, and publishes its pricing in full. Where a competitor is a better fit, the comparisons below say so.

Systems we have compared head-to-head

The full comparison table puts the major systems side by side. Where a vendor publishes no price, our table says “quote only” rather than guessing.

Systems we have not yet compared

Three further products advertise Mac capability on their own websites (checked August 17, 2026); we have not published head-to-head comparisons and make no claims about them beyond what their vendors state:

  • PVVAT (Precision Vision) — desktop acuity software offered for Windows and Mac.
  • Visual Acuity for Mac (KyberVision) — macOS desktop acuity software.
  • Canela Acuity System — the 20/20 software preloaded on an iMac.

When AcuityMaster may not be the right fit

  • Your group strictly prefers one-time capital purchases. AcuityMaster Cloud is subscription-only. A perpetual-license product such as AcuityPro or a free-tier product such as eChart Acuity may fit your accounting better.
  • You want an integrated hardware exam lane from one vendor. AcuityMaster is software for the display you already own. If you want the monitor, mount and software as one purchased system, an integrated product such as the M&S Smart System is the model you are describing.
  • You need a test AcuityMaster does not include. AcuityMaster does not include LEA Symbols and does not measure contrast sensitivity (it offers reduced-contrast acuity at four levels). If either is essential, check the alternatives’ feature lists first.

What AcuityMaster is

For the other side of the ledger: AcuityMaster is browser-based digital visual acuity testing software for ophthalmology and optometry practices, built by Mark S. Brown, MD, a practicing oculoplastic surgeon, and in clinical use since 2012. Pricing starts at $249 per year for a first seat and is published in full. The 7-day free trial needs no credit card — the honest way to evaluate any of this is in your own exam lane.
