What’s Included

The trial is the full product — nothing held back.

The free evaluation is fully functional. You get every chart type and every optotype in the shipping product: Snellen (US, metric, and decimal notation), ETDRS/LogMAR charts, color vision screening plates, reduced-contrast acuity, the Worth 4-Dot test, fixation disparity, the astigmatic dial, red-green duochrome for refraction, and the full pediatric set — HOTV, Tumbling E, Landolt C, and picture optotypes. Single-letter, single-line, and multiline display modes are all available, along with crowding bars for amblyopia work, single-letter isolation, mirror mode for compact lanes, and video fixation targets for pediatric attention. See the complete list on the features page.

Calibration works exactly as it does in the licensed version: you enter your patient-to-screen distance, and letter sizes are auto-calculated from that distance — the same approach that keeps AcuityMaster consistent with ANSI Z80.21 and ISO 8596 display standards. Nothing about the trial is a simplified demo, so what you evaluate is what your technicians will actually use.

Evaluation Guide

How to evaluate AcuityMaster in your lane

Seven days is enough for a fair clinical evaluation — if you use it deliberately. Dr. Brown built AcuityMaster while testing patients in his own lanes, and this is the sequence he recommends:

  • Day 1 — sign in and calibrate. There is nothing to install: sign in and the chart opens in your browser. Measure your true patient-to-screen distance and enter it during setup; letter sizes are calculated from that number, so an accurate measurement matters more than anything else you do. Confirm your display meets the specs on the requirements page, and follow the digital eye chart setup guide if you’re converting a projector lane.
  • Days 2–4 — run every chart your clinic actually uses. Snellen for routine exams, ETDRS/LogMAR if you do clinical trials or low-vision work, pediatric optotypes if you see children, duochrome and astigmatic dial if you refract. Don’t spend evaluation days on charts you’ll never open.
  • Days 5–6 — test your exam-lane workflow, and let technicians run real patient flows. The people who will use this forty times a day should be the ones deciding whether it fits. Set up the dual-monitor configuration with your desktop extended and the chart full-screen on the patient display. If your lane is short, try mirror mode. If you use a USB foot pedal, confirm it drives the video fixation targets the way your technicians expect.
  • Watch where they hesitate. Randomized letters and quick chart switching should feel faster than your projector, not slower.
  • Day 7 — review as a group and decide. Compare notes across lanes and staff, and check the FAQ for anything that came up. Unfamiliar with a term like LogMAR or crowding bars? The glossary covers the terminology.
After the Trial

When your trial ends

No payment information is collected for the trial, so nothing renews or auto-charges. When the evaluation ends, you simply choose how — or whether — to continue:

AcuityMaster Cloud is the path most practices should plan around. It is browser-based (Mac, Windows, and iPad), requires no installation, updates automatically, and is priced from $249 for one seat, with graduated volume rates applied automatically as seats are added. Cloud is available now — see Cloud pricing for the full tier table.

Questions about whether AcuityMaster fits your practice? Email Mark@AcuityMaster.com or call (251) 216-2825 — you’ll be talking to the clinician who wrote the software.
